Capoliveri is a picturesque village sitting on a hilltop 165m above the sea-level. It originates from an Etruscan stronghold. In the past, people lived from the exploitation of the near iron-mines Calamita. Nowadays Capoliveri has become one of the most attractive tourist-centres of Elba.
The very characteristic piazza is the animated centre of this little, particular village. From the Piazza starts Via Roma, the main road of Capoliveri, only open to pedestrians. Many characteristic little lanes branch out in the midst of the old Village Centre. This part of Capoliveri is the so-called Centro storico.
The island of Elba and Capoliveri are specially beautiful in the lower season like April, May, June and also September and October. The typical flora and fauna of the Tuscan archipel are ideal for touring and exploring this wonderful island of outstanding beauty. Close to Capoliveri, about 3 min. by car, are a lot of beaches, which offer diving-courses and windsurfing, with bars and restaurants serving excellent fresh sea-food. Should you prefer a more peaceful holiday there are beaches that can be reached through paths, leading down to the seaside, or just coming from the sea.
